Breast Cancer: Know about risk factors, symptoms

Women in Bangladesh have been suffering from different types of cancers. Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer occurring in women and men.
This cancer starts beyond the lining cells over the ducts and lobules of the glandular tissues about the breast. Breast cancer can be treated if it is spotted at an early stage.
According to a 2021 report of the World Health Organization (WHO), around 2.3 million women across the world are diagnosed with breast cancer and 685,000 deaths globally.
What causes breast cancer?
Breast cancer is not a contagious or infectious disease. Factors like age, family history, radiation exposure are responsible to increase the risk of breast cancer.
Obesity
Experts have termed overweight with the occurrence of breast cancer. American Cancer Society study found that women having overweight are 40 percent more likely to develop breast cancer.
Less physical activity
The connection between physical activity and diseases is known by all of us. But only a few may know about the link between physical activity and breast cancer. Numerous studies have established that women involved in regular physical activity have a lower risk of having breast cancer.
Over consumption of alcohol
Alcohol helps to increase the estrogen level in the body which consequently upsurges the risk of breast cancer. It prevents the body’s ability to cleanse the chemicals thus giving way to the development of the disease.
Lack of Vitamin D
Women having the right amount of Vitamin D in their body are less at risk of breast cancer than those who have low levels of vitamin D. Lack of Vitamin D may occur breast cancer.
Symptoms of breast cancer
The common indications of breast cancer are a noticeable lump; alteration in size, form and appearance of the breast; change in the appearance of the nipple or the areolar area; discharge from the nipple. It is very vital to check the indications of cancer at an early age, for which one needs to have regular checkups done by experts.
