Debutants Krunal Pandya’s 58 and Prasidh Krishna’s four wickets helped India to get a convincing 66-run victory over world champions England in the first ODI of the three-match series on Tuesday.
Chasing a mammoth 318 for victory, England were bowled out for 251 in 42.1 overs despite a blazing 94 from only 66 balls by Jonny Bairstow and trail the three-match series by 1-0.
The 25-year-old Krishna’s figure 4-54 were the best by an Indian debutant.
Earlier, Shikhar Dhawan’s 98, KL Rahul’s 62 and debutant Krunal Pandya’s innings helped India to post 317-5 after being put into bat first.
India will take on England in the second ODI at the same venue on Friday.
