Have you just welcomed a newborn baby to your family? If so, what is a better way to accept and celebrate a new life in this world than to observe the Sunnah?

Our Holy Prophet took certain steps when welcoming a newborn to this world and encouraged others to do the same on such occasions.

Here are six snares to welcome a newborn baby that we all must obey and follow in the footsteps of the Holy Prophet to be satisfied.

Recite Athan in baby’s right ear Abu Dawud: 5105

The great Prophet Muhammad used to recite Athan in the newborn baby’s right ear so that the first thing the little one hears after being born are the words of Tawheed.

Tahnik Sahih Muslim: 2145

The Prophet also cleaned the newborn’s taste with a date or some other sweet food.

Slaughter sheep on the 7th day after childbirth Tirmidhi: 1516, 1519

It is Sunnah to slaughter two sheep or goats if the newborn is a boy and one for a girl.

Shave baby’s hair on the 7th day Abu Dawud: 2843, Tirmidhi: 1522

Applying saffron at the baby’s head after shaving is a Sunnah only a few recognize, but Prophet Muhammad usually did this on the 7th day after the baby become born.

Give charity Tirmidhi: 1519

Our Prophet gave gold or silver equal in weight to the baby’s hair in charity.

Give the newborn a meaningful name Tirmidhi: 1522
