Padma Bridge opens for vehicles in June

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the much anticipated Padma Multipurpose Bridge will be opened for vehicular movement next June.

“Ninety-six percent of bridge’s main works have already been completed and the overall progress of the project is around 90.50 percent,” Quader told journalists after a view-exchange meeting with different bridges division officials on Tuesday morning.

The minister said 80 percent of construction works of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman tunnel beneath the river Kornophuli in Chattogram also has been completed.

We are working to complete the project by December this year, he added.

Of the three phases of the Dhaka Elevated Expressway, Quader said about 78.50 percent of works of the first phase of the expressway have already been completed, adding that working progress of the Banani-Maghbazar part of the expressway is 31 percent.

The Minister instructed the officials concerned to further speed up the work of the project.
