The World Health Organization (WHO) on Friday granted Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use.
In a statement, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “Every new, safe and effective tool against COVID-19 is another step closer to controlling the pandemic. Emergency use listing is the green light for a vaccine to be procured and rolled out by COVAX.”
But the hope offered by these tools will not appear if they are not available to all the people in all countries, he added.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus urged the concerned governments and companies to take initiative to provide these tools to all the people across the world. In addition, he emphasized making it available and affordable to all.
Paul Stoffels, chief scientist of Johnson & Johnson, said that the company expects to produce up to 3 billion doses of the vaccine next year, reports Reuters.
Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine is the third COVID-19 vaccine after Pfizer/BioNTech and AstraZeneca to receive backing from the WHO.
