Office goers and commuters were stuck on the Airport Road due to severe tailback of the vehicles on the road on Tuesday morning.

Azizur Rahman, a passenger of the road, said, “I don’t know the actual reason behind the jam but I have to spend more than two hours in the same spot just because of the tailback. I am already two hours late in my office.”

Another commuter named Riaz Ahmed complained that there is no visible cause of the jam, but the traffic of the route did not move an inch for several hours.

Many passengers of the route took to Facebook to express their disappointment early this morning.

Almost all the vehicles in the road got stuck in key points of the route like Matikata, Kurmitola, Khilkhet and Abdullahpur.

Meanwhile, tailbacks of vehicles were also noticed in the Banani and Mohakhali areas of the city.

Traffic officials of different areas of the city blamed an accident and the heavy rain in the morning for the severe jam in this route.

Md Abdullah, Airport Traffic Zone Assistant Commissioner, said, “A goods-laden truck had fallen on a pot-hole in the Senakalyan area of Tongi. This may the reason behind the severe traffic jam in this part of the city.”

In addition, heavy rain in the morning caused waterlogging along the route and this could be another reason for traffic gridlock, he added.
