Eid holidaymakers have started returning to Dhaka through Paturia-Daulatdia and Aricha-Kazirhat routes after celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr in their villages.

Thousands of people from 21 southern districts have crossed the river through different ghats since Saturday afternoon.

The mad rushes of holidaymakers have been noticed in almost every ghats on Sunday morning as well.

A  total of 16 ferries are operating now on the Paturia-Daulatdia route and four on the Aricha-Kazirhat route to keep pace with the huge crowd who went to their respective villages just before Eid.

Passengers and vehicles are being transported while goods-laden trucks to be allowed to cross the river at night.

Meanwhile, passengers alleged that the vehicles they board to return to Dhaka are charging extra than usual.

Moreover, the government has already decided to extend the ongoing strict restrictions for another week to curb the spread of coronavirus infections.

The government imposed nationwide restrictions on public movement on April 5 and enforced the ongoing strict lockdown from April 14.
