Crowd at banks, ATMs ahead of strict lockdown

People crowded at almost all branches of every bank and ATM booths in the capital just a day before the strict lockdown starts.

People were seen in a rush to withdraw money from different banks in the capital. The situation is almost the same in Motijheel, Dainik Bangla, Paltan, and other areas of the capital.

In such a situation, bank officials struggled to cope with the pressure of clients. Health rules were ignored in many branches due to the extra crowd.

Mohammad Azhar Uddin, senior vice president of Exim Bank’s Motijheel branch, told Dhaka Post that the banks will be closed for seven days from tomorrow. As a result, people rushed to the banks to withdraw money. Officials have been working hard to serve the clients since morning. As per the instructions of Bangladesh Bank, the transaction could be done till 3:00 pm today.

The same scenario has been noticed in the ATM booths of the capital. Compared to other days of the week, a long line of clients has been seen in all ATM booths.

Notably, the government will enforce a strict lockdown from Wednesday to curb the coronavirus infection.

As per the government directions, all banks across the country will remain shut for the next seven days, Bangladesh Bank said on Monday.
