28 stranded sailors of ‘Banglar Samriddhi’ return home

Twenty-eight stranded sailors of the Bangladeshi ship named ‘Banglar Samriddhi’ have been safely reached Dhaka from Romania’s capital Bucharest.

The Turkish Airlines flight TK-722 carrying them landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 12:01 pm on Wednesday.

The airport authorities have confirmed the matter to Dhaka Post.

Earlier, they left Bucharest, the capital of Romania, at Tuesday midnight and their flight landed in Dhaka via Istanbul-Dubai.

They have been safely evacuated to Romania from war-torn Ukraine on March 6.

Their ship was stranded at a Ukrainian port and came under a missile attack on March 2 leaving one Bangladeshi sailor dead.

The deceased was identified as Md Hadisur Rahman, the third engineer of the vessel. His home is in Barguna’s Betagi upazila’s Hosnanabad union.

The Bangladeshi ship with 29 sailors on board has been stranded in Ukraine’s Olivia port since Russia invaded the Eastern European country.
