Ekushey Book Fair extended till March 17

State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid said that the Amar Ekushey Book Fair has been extended till March 17.

He made the remarks while speaking with reporters at his office in the Secretariat on Sunday.

As per the state minister, the Prime Minister today approved that the book fair will run till March 17.

We were worried about whether we would be able to hold the book fair successfully due to the worsening COVID-19 situation, he said.

Later, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2022 on Bangla Academy and Suhrawardy Udyan premises on February 15.

On that occasion, she hinted that the duration of the fair could be extended if the coronavirus situation improves.

The publishers, however, appealed to the PM to extend the time of the fair. The Prime Minister approved their appeal to extend the time.

The book fair will remain open for all from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm on working days and 11:00 am to 9:00 pm on public holidays with a one-hour break for lunch and offering prayers.

A total of 776 stalls have been allocated to 534 organizations. The authorities have allotted 142 stalls to 102 organizations at the Bangla Academy ground and 634 stalls to 432 organizations at the Suhrawardy Udyan.
