The government further lowered the age limit for booster doses. The eligibility for getting a booster dose has been decreased to 40 years.

Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Sunday came up with the development at a press conference at the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons in Dhaka.

He said, “People aged 40 and above will be able to get a COVID-19 booster dose from now on.”

Previously it was decreased to 50 years from originally announced 60 years and above mark.

Besides, from now on, children who are above 12 will be vaccinated across the country, he added.

By showing the birth certificates only, children aged above 12 can receive the COVID-19 vaccine from any center of the country, as per the health minister.

So far, 9.70 crore people have received the first shot of the vaccine and of them, six crore have received the second dose.

The health minister urged all to maintain hygiene rules as Omicron has spread in Bangladesh.

He further said that the number of patients in the hospitals also increased following the recent surge of the virus. There were around 400-500 patients in hospitals before Omicron. Now it has crossed 2,500-3,000 and increasing.
