Omicron: 22 new cases detected, 55 so far in Bangladesh

A total of 22 more cases of Omicron variant of the COVID-19 have been detected in Bangladesh, taking the total tally to 55 till Sunday.

The data was released by the Germany-based organization Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data (GISAID), an international database organization for the virus.

These Omicron cases were detected at the virology laboratory of the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh, (icddr,b).

The first cases of the Omicron variant were first detected in Bangladesh on December 11 when two female cricketers of the national team contracted the virus after returning from Zimbabwe.

However, they have recovered and returned home after testing negative for the virus.
