Hattrick for Ivy

Selina Hayat Ivy has become mayor of the Narayanganj City Corporation for the third consecutive term beating independent candidate Taimur Alam Khandakar.

The Awami League candidate bagged 159,097 votes while her rival candidate Taimur got 92,562 votes.

Ivy became the first mayor in the country to hold office for three consecutive terms.

Earlier, the voting began at 8:00 am and continued till 4:00 pm without any break while the people were seen exercising their franchise through the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

Awami League mayoral candidate Selina Hayat cast her vote at the Deobhogh Shishubagh School polling center at about 10:45 am while her main rival independent candidate Taimur Alam Khandakar voted at the Narayanganj Islamia Kamil Madrasa Centre in Masdair at about 8:30 am.

Earlier, the Election Commission announced the poll schedule for the NCC on November 30 while a total of seven candidates vied for the mayoral post.

Apart from electing mayors, voters are also casting ballots to elect nine reserved women councilors and 27 councilors.
