Voting begins in Narayanganj City Corporation election

Much anticipated voting in the Narayanganj City Corporation elections has started on Sunday morning.

The voting started in 192 polling centers in 27 wards of the city at 8:00 am this morning and will continue till 4:00 pm without any break.

A total of 517,362 registered voters will exercise their voting rights at 1,333 polling booths in the constituency.

In this election, Awami League’s candidate outgoing mayor Selina Hayat Ivy is looking forward to winning the election for the third consecutive time while Taimur Alam Khandakar, an independent candidate, is in search of his first.

Basically, Taimur Alam Khandakar was a BNP candidate. His party, however, boycotted the polls citing that a free and fair election is not possible under the Election Commission and the ruling government. Following this, Taimur became an independent candidate.

Selina Hayat Ivy will be the first to become mayor for the third time in a row if she wins the election.

Apart from electing mayors, voters are also casting ballots to elect nine reserved women councilors and 27 councilors.
