Omicron cases in Bangladesh rise to 30

Bangladesh have reported nine more cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus taking the total number in the country to 30 as of Monday.
The data was released by the Germany-based organization Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data (GISAID), an international database organization for the virus.
The first cases of the Omicron variant were first detected in Bangladesh on December 11 when two female cricketers of the national team contracted the virus after returning from Zimbabwe.
However, they have recovered and returned home after testing negative for the virus.
Notably, Bangladesh has seen a recent surge in COVID-19 infections in the past few weeks.
As per the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) data, the infections have gone up by 115 percent in a week.
