‘MV Ovijan 10’ launch owner arrested from Keraniganj

The members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested Hamjalal Sheikh, owner of the ‘MV Ovijan 10’ launch, from Keraniganj.

Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of the Legal and Media Wing of the RAB, confirmed the matter on Monday.

According to the RAB officials, he was reportedly in concealment at one of his relative’s residences.

Earlier, an arrest warrant has been issued against eight people, including four launch owners, in a case filed with a naval court over the fire accident in ‘MV Ovijan 10’ launch.

The warrant was issued by Joint District Judge Zainab Begum on Sunday afternoon.

Notably, the Barguna-bound launch ‘MV Ovijan 10’, with over 500 passengers onboard, started its journey from Dhaka and it caught fire around 3:00 am on Friday in the Dapdapiya area of the Sugandha river in Jhalakathi.

A total of 36 bodies of passengers have been recovered from the sport so far and three others injured passed away while undergoing treatment at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal hospital.

Meanwhile, the condition of the other victims who are undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery are in critical condition.
