‘No textbook festival at schools next year’

There will be no textbook festival on January 1, 2022, like the previous year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni came up with the statement while inspecting a printing press in Dhaka on Thursday.

“Over 95 percent of books will reach schools across the country by December 31. Students will get books in phases within January,” said Dipu Moni.

However, like the previous year, there will be no book festival on the 1st January 2022 considering the coronavirus situation, she added.

When asked about the Omicron variant of the virus, the minister said that it is not high time to make any comment regarding this. We are monitoring the situation and we will take the necessary step at the right time.

We have to wait till March next year to understand the surge of the new variant. If the situation remains normal in March, then the activities in educational institutions will continue as usual, she concluded.

Notably, Bangladesh have set an example in the world by distributing free books among large number of students on the first day of the academic year since 2009-10.
