Twenty-two accused in Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad murder case have been produced before a Dhaka court from Keraniganj Central Jail.
They were produced before the court around 9:30 am on Sunday morning as the court is scheduled to announce the verdict in the sensational murder of Abrar Fahad.
Nipen Biswas, In-Charge of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Post.
Judge Abu Zafar Md Kamaruzzaman of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 will deliver the verdict around 12:00 pm.
After the completion of the argument of both state and defendant, the tribunal on November 14 fixed the date to deliver the verdict.
On October 7, 2019, Abrar Fahad, a second-year student of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) department of BUET, was beaten to death by Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders at the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall.
Abrar’s father Barkat Ullah later filed a murder case with Chawkbazar Police Station accusing 19 people.
On November 13, 2019, Detective Branch (DB) Inspector and investigation officer of the case Wahiduzzaman submitted the charge sheet against the 25 accused.
On September 15, 2020, the court framed charges against the accused.
The court recorded statements of 47 out of the 60 witnesses in the case.
On March 14 this year, the arrested 22 accused in the case claimed innocence on account of self-defense.
Among the 25 accused, three of them - Jishan, Rafid and Tanim - remained absconding.
