Veteran actor Farooque in ICU again

Legendary actor and Member of Parliament Akbar Hossain Pathan, popularly known as Farooque, has been taken to the ICU on an emergency basis.

Actress-host Asma Pathan Rumpa, Farooque’s niece, confirmed the matter on Saturday.

Rumpa said, “Farooque has been in Singapore for regular checkups since March 4. His condition suddenly deteriorated on Saturday morning. He was rushed to the ICU immediately. He is currently under constant observation.”

The legendary actor has been admitted to hospital several times before. Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, he has to face various health complications. The veteran actor also tested positive for the COVID-19 in November last year.

Farooque was born in Dhaka in 1948. He made his debut in Bangla cinema with ‘Jalchabi’ directed by H Akbar in 1971.

He received many awards including the National Film Award in 1975 for the film ‘Lathial’ for his outstanding contribution to Bangladeshi films.
