Lionel Messi to wear number 30 at PSG

Lionel Messi will wear the number 30 jersey for Paris St Germain, the club confirmed in a video posted on its Twitter handle.

Messi, who won four Champions Leagues and 10 domestic league titles with Barcelona, used to wear number 10 for his country and former club Barcelona.

However, he started a new journey here with number 30, the same that he had started his career in Barcelona.

Fans assumed that Lionel Messi will wear the number 10 jersey for his new club Paris St Germain, as number 10 is the symbol of the best player of a team for many spectators.

Many media outlets also reported that Neymar, the current number 10 holder for PSG, is also agreed to leave the number 10 jersey for his friend and former teammate Lionel Messi.

But the video posted on PSG’s Twitter feed headlined ‘a new diamond in Paris’, cleared all the confusion regarding Messi’s jersey number in his new destinations.

Earlier on Tuesday, Lionel Messi joined star-packed Paris St Germain after leaving Barcelona, the club where he had begun and expected to end his career.

PSG said in a statement that Messi, a six-time winner of the Ballon d’Or, signed a two-year contract with an option for a third year.

“I am excited to begin a new chapter of my career at Paris Saint-Germain. I am determined to help build something special for the club and the fans, and I am looking forward to stepping out onto the pitch at the Parc des Princes,” PSG quoted Messi as saying.
