Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Najmul Hossain Shanto made a solid partnership after the fall of opener Shadman Islam on the second day of their first Test at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Sunday.

Tigers scored 111-1 as Joy and Shanto remained unbeaten on 42 and 43 runs respectively till the report. Shadman was sent to the pavilion by Neil Wagner after scoring 22.

Earlier on the day, Bangladesh bundled out New Zealand for 328 just before lunch of the day.

Off-spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz led the bowling unit to destroy the New Zealand line-up as he ended with figures of three for 86 in 32 overs.

Shoriful Islam provided the early breakthrough for the Tigers followed by skipper Mominul Haque’s second wicket.

Rachin Ravindra was removed by Shoriful in the beginning of the day.

Mominul claimed the wicket of Henry Nicholls who scored a brilliant 75 with 12 fours while Mehedi removed tail-enders Kyle Jamieson, Tim Southee and Neil Wagner in successive deliveries.

New Zealand started the day with 258 for five in 87.3 overs with Henry Nicholls unbeaten on 32.

For New Zealand, Devon Conway, who was removed by Bangladesh skipper Mominul Haque, scored a superb 122 while opener Will Young bagged 52.

Ebadot Hossain picked up the wicket of Tom Blundell for 11 at the far end of day one.
