The government on Monday approved the proposal of suspending BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s prison sentence for six more months.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Monday said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has approved the proposal, reports several media.

With the previous conditions remaining unchanged, Khaleda Zia’s bail period has been extended for another six months.

Khaleda Zia cannot go abroad during the period of six months.

Earlier, the law ministry gave its opinion for extending the suspension of Khaleda Zia’s jail sentence for six more months on March 8.

The family of Khaleda Zia filed a plea with the home ministry seeking an extension of her suspended prison sentence on March 3. In addition, they also sought permission to go abroad for her medical treatment.

On September 3, last year, the law ministry agreed to extend Khaleda Zia’s parole for another six months.

Khaleda was freed from jail on March 25 last year after the government suspended her jail sentence for six months.
