5 killed in Chandpur while returning from wedding

Five people were killed after a private car lost control and fell into a roadside pond in Chandpur.

The accident took place at Chitshi Chatkhil Road in the Narah area around 1:00 am on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as passengers Shahparan Tushar, Shakil Hossain, Rezaul Karim, Nayan, and its driver Sagar Hossain.

Md Sahidur Rahman, sub-inspector of Shaharasti Police Station, said that they were returning from Comilla after attending a wedding program.

The car lost control and fell into the pond. The car drowned immediately while the five people died on the spot, he added.

Shahidul Islam, Deputy Assistant Director of Chandpur Fire Service, said that a unit of fire service immediately reached the spot upon receiving the information.

The bodies of the deceased have recovered and handed over to the police, he added.

Further details regarding the incident could not be known immediately.
