Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni said that the in-person classes of secondary and university level educational institutions will be resumed on February 22.

She came up with the statement at a press briefing on Thursday.

“All educational institutions except primary schools will reopen from February 22,” said Dipu Moni.

However, the students who have taken two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will be able to attend in-person classes, she added.

The authorities of universities were asked to take their own decision regarding reopening.

The decision of reopening educational institutions came just hours after the National Technical Advisory Committee on COVID-19 has recommended reopening educational institutions.

The committee on Wednesday night recommended reopening educational institutions at a meeting with Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni.

Earlier, the government announced the closure of all the schools and colleges across the country from January 21 to February 6 amid a surge in COVID-19 cases due to the dominant Omicron variant.

The shutdown was later extended till February 20 considering the safety of the students.
