Public transport will be suspended from Monday following the government instruction to impose a 7-day nationwide lockdown.

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport & Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader came up with the statement at a regular briefing on contemporary issues at his official residence on Sunday.

Obaidul Quader said, however, the ban will not be applied on the transportation of goods, emergency services, fuel, medicine, perishable, relief transport, newspapers, and garments.

Earlier, on Saturday, Obaidul Quader said, the government has announced a seven-day nationwide lockdown from Monday to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection.

The Minister added that considering the worsening COVID-19 situation in the country, such a decision has been made by the government.

The number of daily infections and deaths from coronavirus is on the rise in the country suddenly.
