Journalist Habib killed in road crash

Habibur Rahman, a senior reporter of daily Shomoyer Alo, has died after a motorcycle accident in the capital's Hatirjheel area early Wednesday.

The incident took place at the Begunbari area of Hatirjheel around 2:30 am on Wednesday, confirmed several journalists of the newspaper.

The former Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) organizing secretary sustained critical injuries after his motorcycle hit a footpath. After the accident, pedestrians took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Police later rushed to the spot and recovered his motorcycle.

Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, said that the body has been kept at the morgue of the hospital for autopsy.

An investigation is underway to define the exact cause of his death, he added.
