Ekushey Book Fair deferred by 2 weeks

This year’s Amar Ekushey book fair has been deferred by two weeks amid the recent surge of COVID-19 across the country.

State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid confirmed the matter after a meeting at the Secretariat on Sunday.

He said, “The book fair has been postponed till February 15. Then a new decision will be made about the fair.”

“An announcement will be made soon.”

This year the Bangla Academy authority has taken preparations to open the fair from the first day of February, the decision of postponing the fair for two weeks has been taken in line with an 11-point directive issued by the government from January 13 to stem the spread of Omicron, a new variant of the COVID-19. 

The book fair did not start on time even in the last year. Later, the fair began on March 18 at the Bangla Academy premises.
