The condition of the Jhalokathi launch fire victims who are undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery are in critical condition.

Dr Samanta Lal Sen, coordinator of the hospital, disclosed the matter while talking to reporters at the hospital on Saturday.

A total of 21 people were taken to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Friday and 16 of them were admitted to the burn institute, where four others received first aid.

At least 39 people were killed and several others burn injuries as a passenger launch caught fire in the Sugandha river in Jhalakathi in the early hours of Friday.

The Barguna-bound launch ‘MV Ovijan 10’, with over 500 passengers onboard, started its journey from Dhaka and it caught fire around 3:00 am in the Dapdapiya area of the Sugandha river in Jhalakathi.
