Murad Hassan, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting, on Tuesday resigned from the cabinet citing ‘personal reasons’.

A spokesperson of the ministry confirmed the matter to Dhaka Post.

Several media reports that the state minister, who is currently in Chattogram, emailed his letter of resignation to his office on Tuesday.

The letter will be sent to the Prime Minister’s Office through the Cabinet Division.

Murad’s move has come after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday evening asked him to resign from the cabinet for his derogatory remarks on women, which has widely been criticized on social media.

Soon after submitting his resignation, Murad asks for apology for his remarks in a Facebook post.

Murad Hassan has been in the limelight for the last couple of days over his derogatory and controversial remarks on different issues.

He made some offensive and derogatory comments on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and his daughter Zaima Rahman during an interview on a Facebook live.

Later on Monday, another controversial phone conversation between him and actor Emon and actress Mahi leaked and went viral on social media.

Many Awami League leaders said that these two back-to-back incidents of the state minister are a matter of embarrassment for the government and party too.

According to the Awami League leaders, the party may take action against the state minister if the allegations against him proved to be true.
