Bus owners agree to charge half fares from students in Dhaka

In the face of the student movement for the last few days, the owners of the public transport have decided to take half fare from students in Dhaka from Wednesday.

Khandaker Enayet Ullah, secretary general of the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners’ Association, made the announcement at a press conference on Tuesday.

He said, “Students will have to show ID cards of their respective institutions while paying half fares. Half fares will be effective within 7:00 am to 8:00 pm every day.”

However, this half fare will not be applicable on weekends and public holidays of the educational institutions, he added.

Earlier on Tuesday, leaders of the public transport owners’ association had a meeting with Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader in this regard.
