The meeting between the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and the representatives of transport owners to re-fix public transport fares has begun at BRTA headquarters in Dhaka on Sunday morning.

BRTA Chairman Nur Mohammad Mazumder is presiding over the meeting while representatives of Bangladesh Public Transport Owners’ Association, Bangladesh Bus-Truck Owners’ Association, Consumers’ Association Bangladesh are present among others.

Bus owners demanded increasing fares to cope with the diesel price hike while the trucks and lorries owners demanded cancellation of fuel price hike.

The nationwide indefinite strike of public and goods transports across the country has entered the third day on Sunday.

Earlier on Wednesday, the government increased diesel and kerosene oil prices by Tk 15 per liter considering the rising fuel prices in the global market.

Following the move by the government, the owners and workers of public and goods transports have called for a nationwide strike from Friday morning.
