Owners and workers of public and goods transports have called for a nationwide strike starting from Friday morning in protest against the latest price hike of diesel and kerosene oil.

Md Tofazzal Hossain Majumder, President of Bangladesh Truck-Covered Van Owners Association, confirmed the development to Dhaka Post on Thursday.

“Transport owners are already under a lot of pressure as they face huge losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The government have increased the price of diesel and kerosene oil. Besides, they increased the toll for two bridges earlier. In such a situation, it will be impossible for us to operate vehicles,” he said.

This move is totally illogical and in protest of it the transport owners and workers will go for a nationwide strike from Friday, he added.

The strike will continue until the government changes its decision, he concluded.

Earlier on Wednesday, the government increased diesel and kerosene prices by Tk 15 per liter considering the rising fuel prices in the global market.
