School students, between 12-17 years of age, will be vaccinated with Pfizer COVID-19 jabs at the Colonel Malek Medical College Hospital in Manikganj on Thursday.

Professor Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam, director general of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the statement on Wednesday.

“We will inoculate a group of students from two schools with Pfizer vaccine as a test run and observe their health condition for 10-14 days,” the DG said in an online announcement.

The vaccination campaign for school students will be launched across the country on a broader scale after this test run, he added.

Initially, the school students will receive the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

Earlier, the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Gavi, a public-private global health partnership, have nodded their consent to vaccinate school students.

Notably, the government has 60 lakh Pfizer-BioNTech doses in stock, as per Health Minister Zahid Maleque.
