Chloe Zhao

Chinese-born filmmaker Chloe Zhao has won the best director for ‘Nomadland’ at the Oscars 2021 on Sunday night.

Chloe Zhao became the first woman of color and the first woman of Asian descent to bag the best director award at the Academy Awards.

“I have always found goodness in the people I’ve met everywhere I went in the world,” said Zhao when accepting the award.

‘Nomadland’ won the best picture at the 93rd Academy Awards while its actress Frances McDormand wins the best actress award for her role in the picture.

With a budget of less than $5 million and featuring a cast populated by non-professional actors, ‘Nomadland’ ranks as one of the most modest-sized movies to win Hollywood’s top honor.
